What is electronic ink and how does it work?

Electronic ink is a special material that is processed into a film for integration into electronic displays. Revolutionary in concept, electronic ink is a fusion of chemistry, physics and electronics. It is made up tiny microcapsules, about the diameter of a human hair, which contain white and black charged particles suspended in a clear fluid. Alternating the charge of electrodes determines which particle (black or white) is brought to the surface and this is done easily at the touch of a button.

In addition, e-ink technology uses far less power than conventional lcd displays, greatly extending battery life.
